Ugh Why: Don’t Even Bother, Caps Lose 2-1

The Capitals were all over Buffalo earlier, holding them without a shot for the first 16:57 minutes of the game. Meanwhile the Capitals had thirteen shots of their own, six coming on their early powerplay. The Capitals out shot Buffalo 15-3 in the scoreless first period. The Capitals had the first powerplay opportunity but couldn’t find the net.

Matt Moulson had a great chance early in the second period before he steamrolled Grubauer. The Capitals continued to out shoot Buffalo, but Buffalo still drew blood first. A beautiful deflection by Drew Stafford beat Grubauer giving him his 4th goal of the year with 1:40 left in the second. At the end of the second the Capitals lead 30-11 in the shot department, 10-4 in scoring chances, even though they trail entering the third 1-0.

The Capitals equalized on a beautiful one timer by Troy Brouwer, set up perfectly by Mikhail Grabovski. Brouwers shot beat Ryan Miller clean to his blocker side, 1-1 with 14:26. The Capitals had a few chances but nothing went in and to OT we went.

In OT, neither team could muster and to the shootout we went.
