PREVIEW: Battle of Capitals, Ottawa visits Washington.

SENATORS (21-19-9) at CAPITALS (22-19-8)

It’s a battle of Capitals for these two hockey teams. The Ottawa Senators visit the Washington Capitals in their third and final meeting this season. The Capitals have lost both and also lost to the Senators three times in the 2012-13 season. The Capitals haven’t beaten the Ottawa Senators since Dec. 7th, 2011.  The conference rivals sit in the 10th and 11th spot in the east. The Capitals currently have 52 points while the Senators are a mere one point behind them with 51.

The Senators are 6-2-2 in their last 10, and look to get back to winning. The Senators are currently on a two game losing streak. Swedish defense-men Erik Karlsson has been red hot for this Senators team. He currently has five points in his last three games. The Senators will look to Craig Anderson to play well against this high octane offense. Craig Anderson isn’t having his best year statistically, he has posted a .902 SV% and has a 3.19 GAA.

The Washington Capitals are 2-5-3 in their last 10. The Capitals are on a 5 game losing skid and look to bounce back quickly. The Capitals have fallen out of a playoff spot and continue to fall down the ranks in the standings. The Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin says that he needs to lead by example. The Captain has 3 goals in his last 4 games. The Capitals have also had goal-tending issues, they recently have sent Philipp Grubauer back to Hershey to play in the AHL. This leaves the Capitals with two goaltenders, Braden Holtby and Michael Neuvirth. Braden Holtby will most likely get the nod Tuesday night. Holtby isn’t having his best year as well, posting a .911 SV% and has a 3.04 GAA.
