Wednesday’s Word: Nightmare

Nightmare, a quick but accurate summary of this season for the Washington Capitals. The team has shown that it lacks secondary scoring. In the last five games they have scored only six goals, three by Alex Ovechkin, one by Jason Chimera, and one by John Carlson (Ovi played in four of the five). The lack of scoring combined with the 16 goals given up in those same 5 games, has forced the Capitals to drop 13 of the last 17. If that wasn’t bad enough, they have fallen to sixth in the Metropolitan Division and out of a playoff spot.

In the midst of the struggle, Capitals fans have been calling for General Manager George McPhee’s, and other personnel’s, head. The fact of the matter is the season has started and firing your GM would just worsen everything. Right now it is time to weather the storm, the fancy stats say our rut could end soon. Only time will tell now.
