JETS (28-25-5) at CAPITALS (25-23-9)
The old southeast division rivals meet up for the second and final time this season. The Capitals won in a 5-4 S/O back in October. Each team will play two more games before the olympic break. The Capitals continue to fall out of a playoff spot while the Jets have climbed back up the standings. With a Vancouver loss and a Jet’s win Winnipeg can find themselves in possession of the 8th playoff spot in the western conference.
After losing five straight, the Winnipeg Jets fired head coach Claude Noel. The Winnipeg organization then hired Paul Maurice. Not only have the Jet’s won three straight but they also improved to 9-2-0 with Maurice leading the charge. The Jet’s will look to continue their hot streak in Washington on Thursday Night. Ondrej Pavelec is 6-2 under new head coach Paul Maurice with a .912 SV% and backup goal tender Al Montoya is 2-0 and .970 SV%
The Capitals are looking to forget their Tuesday affair with Islanders quickly, where they lost 1-0. The Capitals have played the game long enough to know that you need to have short term memory in this field of work. The Capitals will look to the job at hand on Thursday. Washington will need to create offense if they want to have any chance of slowing down the Jets. In hope of getting in the win column Adam Oates recalled two defensive players Brouillette and Wey. Both will be making their NHL debut tonight and will be pairing up with each other. Mike Green and John Erskine are scratched for tonight’s game. Michael Neuvirth will get the start tonight, his 4th straight. Michael posted a .964 SV% on Tuesday night.
