Thursday’s Thought: New Point System

Now this isn’t anything new, it is the same point system used in the Olympics. Instead of two points being awarded for a win wether it be Regulation/Overtime or shootout, three points should be awarded for a regulation win, and two for overtime/shootout wins. That way the “phantom point”, the third point awarded to the losing team in overtime or shootout, would be eliminated. This new point system would essentially punish teams that “play for overtime”, and try to get team to win games in regulation for the extra point that regulation wins would come with.

This is what the New Point System would look like:

This is what the point system looks like now:

Here is an Excel spreadsheet with the new point system and the point system that is used: New point system v. Old point system

The greener the points the high chance of making the playoffs, yellow is in the hunt, and red is practically eliminated.

*ED NOTE: these are from before the games on Wednesday*

Download it, play around with it, do whatever you like with it, but please if you use it give us a little credit. I spent 2 very distracted hours making it yesterday.
