Nicklas Backstrom is one of the greatest players in the NHL. Backstrom is one of the best, if not the best, passer in the NHL. He is always tallying assists. His puck control, skating ability, and hockey sense is unlike any other player. But those aren’t the only reasons he’s one of greatest. Backstrom is always a giver, he will make an unselfish play for his team every time.

As the game between the Maple Leafs and Capitals was coming to a close the Maple Leafs pulled their netminder to give themselves an extra attacker, hoping to tie things up. Troy Brouwer wristed the puck in an attempt to clear, his clearing attempt turned out to be heading into the empty net. As the puck was slowly sliding down the ice Backstrom made his way past two defenders to make sure that the game would surely be over, instead of getting the puck and shooting it in he slowed down and got in the way of the Maple Leafs D-men. That resulted in a Troy Brouwer goal and an assist for Karl Alzner. That play showed exactly why Nicklas Backstrom is one of the greatest hockey players.
