The Capitals point streak continued tonight as Washington defeated the Florida Panthers in a shootout. But the real story here was Backstrom suiting up for his 500th NHL career game.
It was a low scoring affair in Washington tonight as the Washington Capitals had to finish the Florida Panthers in a shootout. Chimera opened the scoring in the 1st with a beautiful forehand to backhand deke to score top shelf on Al Montaya.
That would be all that Al Montaya would let pass him during regulation. The Panthers would reward their goaltender with a goal early in the third period to knot things up at 1-1. Neither team would tally another goal in regulation or overtime, this game was headed to (In a scary low voice) “Shootout” Sadly Backstrom was unable to record his 500th point.
The Capitals would make short work of the Panthers in the Shootout scoring on all three chances
Kuznetsov: Goal Huberdeau: Goal
Backstrom: Goal Jokinen: No Goal
We, SMB Hockey, were really pulling for Backy to score his 500th NHL career point tonight, sadly that didn’t happen. But that doesn’t take away from the accomplishment of playing in 500 NHL games. And for that reason enjoy the Backstrom Overload:
