PREVIEW: Capitals visit Mo-Town

CAPITALS (24-22-8) at RED WINGS (23-19-11)

It’s a new day for the Washington Capitals as they gear up to play the Detroit Red Wings. Washington got clobbered, again, by the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2. The Capitals, who are currently 13th in the eastern conference, are watching themselves fall out of playoff contention. It’s the same story for the Red Wings. Currently sitting in 11th in the eastern conference the Red Wings look to increase the space between them and Washington.

The Red Wings enter tonight 4-5-1. The Detroit Red Wings will look to keep their 22 consecutive years of playoffs still alive. Detroit will get an extra on boost on Saturday with starting goal tender Jimmy Howard back in the line-up after missing 5 games. Also, Detroit may get their captain back Saturday night who has missed a few games with a lower back injury.

The Washigton Capitals finish their back-to-back games in Detroit against a depleted and injured Red Wings team. The Capitals will look to leap frog over the Red Wings with a road win. If the Capitals can get 2 points in regulation they will jump from 13th to possibly (Carolina needs to lose to STL) 10th. The Capitals are coming off a 5-2 loss in Columbus. Washington will start Michael Neuvirth in net tonight. Nuevy has currently posted a .915 SV% and 2.79 GAA.
